About Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is a fascinating country in Central Asia that's still quite mysterious and not visited by many tourists. It has a diverse landscape with huge deserts, ancient cities from the Silk Road era, and a modern capital city called Ashgabat.
The country where the traveling now taken, is rich in natural gas and its culture is a blend of nomadic traditions and influences from many different countries over the centuries. Some of the most popular places to travel about include the Darvaza Gas Crater, nicknamed the "Door to Hell," which has been burning for years. There's also the Ancient City of Merv, a former Silk Road hub that's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ashgabat is known for its beautiful white marble buildings and impressive monuments, while Kunya-Urgench, another ancient city with mausoleums, is also a UNESCO site. The Yangykala Canyon is incredibly scenic with colorful rock formations that are comparable to some of the world's most famous canyons.
Much of Turkmenistan especially seen along the tour is covered by the Karakum Desert, but there are oases that provide relief from the dryness. The Caspian Sea borders the country to the west.
